Below the mountains the Piedmont extends to the autumn line of the rivers—the east-to-west line of Augusta, Milledgeville, Macon, and Columbus. Along the autumn area, which is sort of 100 miles (a hundred and sixty km) huge, sandy hills type a slender, irregular belt. Underneath these hills the rolling terrain of the coastal plain levels out on t
